Reason for system timezone to not be determined

In the documentation for NSTimeZone - defaultTimeZone it states " If the current system time zone cannot be determined, the GMT time zone is used instead."

Is there anything available that states what could cause the current system timezone to not be determined?

Right. That text comes from the Dawn of Time™ and isn’t really relevant to modern devices. It’s not something I’d worry about.
