I never applied as developer. Why do I have Developer certiciate in my keychain?

I found in my keychain this certificate under system roots: "Developer ID Certification Authority" and it seems like only available for developers, but I never applied as developer nor did I developed anything. Can someone please explain, why this happened and if I should/can delete this certificate?

Replies

Do not delete this certificate.

This certificate is an intermediate certificate used to form a chain of trust between the Developer ID Application signing identity — used by third-party developers to sign their code — and the Apple Certification Authority. If you deleted it, Developer ID apps might stop working.
