External disk is not recognised and does not mount

Hi all, Since I updated to MacOS Sonoma beta, 6 I have the problem that my 4TB external disk (Rocket Pro) does not mount anymore and is not even recognized in Disk Utility. On other Macs with older system software, it mounts without any problem.

Am I the only one with this problem? Any suggestions?

I appreciate any help you can provide. Stefan

Same issue here — several different drives. Disk Utility does see the volume, but I'm unable to mount it even then.

I've found some additional steps that at least will get my drives mounted:

  • The mounting issue seems to happen after a restart
  • If, after restart, I log into one account, the drive(s) won't mount
  • Then, if I log into another user account on the machine, the drives do mount.
  • I can then log out of the second account and back into the first account, and the drives will mount (or stay mounted).

If I do this same set of steps but swap the accounts, the same thing happens — so I don't think it's a user account problem.

Hi, it appears to be some problem with encrypted disks and Keychain.

I found a workaround in this article: https://www.tutonaut.de/en/Don%27t-mount-external-hard-drives-in-Sonoma.-Here-is-the-solution/

Using Terminal commands worked fine to me.

Awesome find — that worked for me as well. Thanks!
