PHPhotoLibrary save to external drive on iOS 17

Question

The native camera app on iPhone 15 can record videos directly in external hard drive. Is there an API to achieve the same in Photos framework?

No there is not, the Photo Library and the asset resources are always stored on device. If you'd like to see an API like this please file a feedback detailing your use case and the high level goals you're trying to achieve.

@Frameworks Engineer So you mean only Apple's camera app on iPhone 15 can save ProRes videos to external USB storage device, but not third party apps?

If you'd like to capture a video directly to an external device then look at adopting the new API AVExternalStorageDevice. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/avfoundation/avexternalstoragedevice
