Weird dark overlay issue in HTML canvas on iOS. 17 and later

Since the update to iOS 17, the pictures in our virtual tours randomly turn very dark and high contrast. They are shown in a canvas so it looks like the entire canvas content is being manipulated. However nothing in our code does this, it happens very randomly (not in every picture and also not in the same pictures every time) and it's only in iOS 17 (not in other iOS versions, not on iPadOs, Mac, Windows, Android, ...). We tried debugging for hours and hours but nothing indicates that this is caused by anything in our code. To try it out yourself:

visit https://youreka-virtualtours.be/tours/vyncke_buhler (on mobile of course).

Screenshot shows what I mean. Sometime you have to click around randomly. Left screenshot in the side by side is after refresh. You can also see the effect disappears when looking at the browser tabs overview.

Could you please file an issue using Feedback Assistant from the iPhone just after reproducing this, and reply here with the "FB" number? That will provide more information, and allow you to see when it's fixed. Thanks!

  • This situation has been going on for many months now and many people are complaining to the software producers about the dark screen issue, but who of course, cannot do much about it. Please can you provide updates or better still an ETA to when this will be fixed. If you would like mode information or project to download, please advise. Kind regards.

You can also experience the same issue here: https://expedition.photography/Myanmar/

On Iphone with iOS17 or later:

Open Tour click on “Enter Myanmar”, click on the language button (bottom right), click on the MY option black screen. (See attached image) Refresh the browser and it’s back to normal but here the issue is repeatable.

See screenshot below.

It seems that it affects the canvas for virtual tours created with Pano2VR software. Never experienced this before. Please fix this asap as it's making all our virtual tours unusable and complaints are flowing in every day even though it's beyond our reach.

Also, it would be nice to be able to add screen captures here. I can't even upload a damn screenshot straight out of my iphone without having to reduce its size in Photoshop. It's ridiculous. How am I supposed to properly show what's going wrong like this.

Out of misery, I uploaded some to vimeo. Please see links below:

Updated to 17.2 and at first I thought the issue was gone but after about 5 minutes it happened again.

Also this video where you can see the effect dissapears when minimizing the tab

Is anyone looking into this? Can you replicate the issue?

Same here is happening to me when using Fabric.js. It only happens on an iOs device, and only after the last update of iOs 17

Getting the same issue here with Fabric.js on iOS 17, has anyone managed to solve it with a workaround?

Are you solved this problem? I think its appear only if you use Cloners in Pano2vr skin editor. I made test with the side menu based on the cloner and black screen was shown at iphone with ios 17. After that I remake side menu with Javascript and the projects runs well. I made post in Pano2vr FB group but nobody answer something interesting :) If you still fight this problem - fill free DM me for more info.
